December 1, 2020

Tempe, Arizona – In partnership with Arizona State University (ASU) and BioDesign Institute, Global Sports & Events (GSE), brought top-level women’s NCAA preseason basketball to the desert over Thanksgiving week. The inaugural Global Sports & Events Tip-Off featured four teams from across the country competing in six games at Desert Financial Arena on the ASU campus. All teams successfully played three scheduled games over a six-day period, with zero positive COVID-19 test results.

ASU Head Coach, Charli Turner Thorne praised the collaborative effort in organizing the event. “Global Sports & Events and ASU partnered to put on a highly competitive MTE that was first class and flawless in its execution. With all the cancellations across the country, we are so grateful for their expertise and diligence to help us host an amazing event.”

The Pac-12 host team ASU Sun Devils boasted a 3-0 tournament record followed by Southland Conference favorite, Stephen F. Austin at 2-1. Atlantic 10 Conference power Virginia Commonwealth went 1-2 and Saint Mary’s College from the West Coast Conference rounded out the field finishing 0-3.

“As we all know, simply fielding teams and organizing this event amidst the COVID-19 pandemic presented several challenges. We embraced those challenges and diligently prepared with the phenomenal staff at ASU and the experts at BioDesign Institute to ensure the event was as safe and secure as possible,” Susie Jarosch, Tournament Co-Director, and Partner at GSE shared. Teams followed Pac-12 Conference COVID-19 testing protocols while abiding by tournament safety measures put in place to create a controlled environment.
